A Double Cheeseburger, Onion Ring and Fry Order Customer Commentary
By: Joseph Cepek
The Hardee’s Double Cheeseburger has about forty fat grams, fourteen saturated fat grams, ninety cholesterol milligrams, one-thousand and fifty sodium milligrams, thirty-eight carbohydrate grams, two dietary fiber grams, ten sugar grams, and twenty-eight protein grams.
The medium size natural cut fries have twenty-four fat grams, four and one-half saturated fat grams, no cholesterol milligrams, nine-hundred and eighty sodium milligrams, sixty-three carbohydrate grams, six dietary fiber grams, no sugar grams, and five protein grams.
The small size order of onion rings packs in four-hundred and ten calories, twenty-four total fat grams, four and one-half saturated fat grams, no cholesterol, four-hundred and seventy sodium milligrams, forty-five total carbohydrate grams, three dietary fiber grams, and five sugar grams.
Generally, a food that has virtually no healthy nutrition benefits such as helping to lower bad cholesterol levels (Low Density Lipoproteins), improve bone, brain, eye, heart, and tooth health with vitamins and minerals such as beta carotene, folate, manganese, magnesium as well as Vitamins A, C, E, and K are classified as “junk” foods.
Hostess®™ Chocolate Ho-Ho’s, Little Debbie®™ Chocolate Swiss Cake Rolls, Entenmann’s®™Glazed Cake Donuts, and Aunt Martha’s®™Glazed Cinnamon Rolls are some classic junk food examples.
Well, just about all fast food menu items also would be considered junk foods. This includes double cheeseburgers as well as fried onion rings and potatoes.
Now, getting back to Hardee's focus, here are some neat facts about the fast food joint in Millvale.
The quick-service food restaurant is located at 1201 North Avenue in Millvale Borough. This is in the Shaler Area School District. The restaurant has been operating for about fifty years. Recently, the facility has begun to permit customers inside the building to dine, pick up online carry-out orders, and/or order in-store take-out transactions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hardee’s Millvale store didn’t allow patrons inside for a little over three years.
However, 4 PM is the earliest anybody in the public can venture into the eatery. This is due to the employee crew being understaffed. This more than likely will change in the foreseeable future for the better as more new employees are hired and properly trained to work with the customers ordering food and beverages at the eatery.
The store is in operation for seven days a week. They stay open until 9 PM Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, the restaurant is open until 8 PM.
One can purchase two double cheeseburgers for three dollars ($3) each. A medium fries order factors in at two dollars and seventy cents ($2.70) each. The small onion rings order comes in at two dollars and seventy cents ($2.70). This is before Pennsylvania and Allegheny County taxes are factored into the final food order bill.
The sandwiches come with one-hundred percent char-broiled (prepared on a charcoal briquet grill) black Angus beef patties which are cooked to a well-done consistency. Sliced onions, ketchup, one slice of melted American yellow cheese on top of each layered beef patty, yellow mustard, and pickles are added to the beef patties. The upper bread bun has white sesame seeds on its top (crown). Each bun is lightly toasted. The meat is juicy and easy to chew with hardly any fat particles in each meat patty.
The fries are made to have a golden-brown appearance. They are slightly crunchy on the outside yet very soft in the middle. They are given just the right amount of salt to coat them on the outside.
The onion rings are fried in pure vegetable oil until they have a golden-brown hue to them. They are not overly greasy and they are soft in texture as you chew and swallow them. They are good-tasting by themselves without any additional condiments such as barbecue sauce or ketchup. If you are an onions fan, you will more than likely enjoy eating these delicacies every now and then.
If you are an individual like me who does not REGULARLY eat double cheeseburgers, onion rings and fries together, this is a good opportunity to try this American food combination. Whether you order your food through the drive-through area, come inside, or order food online, you more than likely will NOT be disappointed with your food choice.
I personally rate both the sandwiches, onion rings and the fries a four out of five-star rating. Drive-through customer service would get a five out of five-star rating due to the employees waiting on my mom and I on May 18, 2023 and with my mom (as she reported to me) on May 29, 2023, being kind and professional in verbally interacting with us (and individually with her). *Onion rings were not ordered on May 18, 2023. * This would be approximately a B-letter grade equivalent for the food and an A-letter grade for direct customer service. I wish each double cheeseburger; small onion rings and medium fry orders cost one dollar and fifty cents less than they actually do.
Five dollars and forty cents ($5.40) would be the total price instead of eleven ($11.40) dollars and forty cents! However, since the separate costs of each food ingredient increase with each calendar year, this apparently is impossible.
Then again, since I do NOT eat these junk foods often, I suppose that it is okay to fork over a few extra dollars and cents every now and then. Lastly, neither the double cheeseburgers, onion rings nor the fries were overly salty to my tongue. I’m correctly assuming they won’t be to most others’ tongues as well. Since 1960, Hardee’s has been serving up fast food staples such as these edible items.
