Graduation Camp 2024

by Amelia Krzton

This year’s senior class of 2024 graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School on June 7th. This graduation made me think about what a graduation camp would be like for these seniors and their close friends and/or siblings. Here is my fun take at a fictional 'review' at what it would be like:

This camp mainly featured swimming at an old favorite swimming pool of mine, which was the Fox Chapel Yacht Club on Freeport Road. Yesterday, we tried horseback riding in honor of our Rodeo theme. Some other days have had themes related to graduation such as exploring, what most high school seniors do once they graduate high school, and numbers, which is very important in numerous school subjects, particularly math.

With the heat wave this week, we have taken advantage of the water more than ever!

Graduation day itself was amazing, as well! It was a nice day watching my lucky class graduate and seeing them receive their diplomas. One of our clients, Madison, received Class of 2024 Salutatorian along with one other senior girl as Valedictorian. Congratulations to both of these young ladies!

Going back to camp, an example of today’s day at camp was a dip in the Fox Chapel Yacht Club pool for at least 2 hours straight. Then came lunch which was turkey or ham and cheese wraps with tater tots, mandarin oranges, and Italian ices for dessert.

After a short rest hour, there was a fishing and boating activity in the Allegheny River followed by a nature scavenger hunt and then even more water activities to come. There was also music on the SiriusXM radio station the 10s Spot

featuring pop music from the 2010s due to a Childhood Chat feature today featuring the East End and another 5 to 5 Childhood Chat.

This camp is reminiscent of the summer of 2010 after I graduated from high school when I would walk to the Brackenridge Heights Country Club pool from my dad’s house and back. If the age range for today’s camp day was featured back in

2010, then the oldest class would be the class of 2003 and the youngest class would be the class of 2012.
