The Music Support Group Academy Varsity Marching Band Halftime Show 2024

by Amilia Krzton

Going into its sixth year of operation, the Music Support Group Academy Varsity Marching Band in Turtle Creek has it bigger and better than ever this fall. The halftime show is entitled Music of Latin America. T

he opening piece is the song “I Like It” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull, the transition piece is “Malaguena” a throwback to my freshman year of high school.

The feature piece is “El Cumbanchero” a throwback to the high school’s halftime show 10 years later, and finally, everyone’s favorite dance anthem by 98 Degrees entitled “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” for the closing piece.

The parade tune is the song “Fireball” by Pitbull and John Ryan. The football team won all 4 home games this fall on September 13, September 27 (the same weekend that the year 2000 was featured in the Pop2Kountdown, also Aspiring Young Musicians Night), October 11 (Homecoming Weekend), and October 25 (Senior Night).

Now, we are going to the playoffs at East Allegheny High School on the first day of November tomorrow. If the football team does really well tomorrow, then we will also go to the playoffs the next week.

Besides football games, I have seen the band perform at Pie Night, the Kennywood Fall Fantasy Parade, the band festival at East Allegheny High School, and today’s Halloween parade at the elementary school, as well as the Homecoming parade.

Some upcoming performances, events, and fundraisers for the marching band include Stadium Highlights on November 6, a Dine-to-Donate event at Shelly Pie in Turtle Creek benefitting the spring trip to Myrtle Beach on November 9, the Christmas parade in Turtle Creek on November 29, which also features an end-of-marching-season party at Great Valley Lanes in North Versailles, and the Christmas concert on December 20.

Additional performances and events include the annual band banquet on April 27 at the Edgewood Country Club, the spring concert on May 7, and of course, the much-anticipated spring band trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from May 25-30 over the Memorial Day weekend.

The band is made over with new uniforms for marching and concert band, new and old faces, and new sectional instructors.

Overall, the fall 2024 marching band season has been awesome!
